SCIENCE OF SUMMER 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM AGES 9-13
Summer is filled with fun activities and new experiences that make it so enjoyable. Hidden behind all of those activities lurks science just waiting to be discovered. In this class, students will explore the science involved in some of their favorite summer activities. Each day will focus on a different field of science and how it can be experienced in the world around us. Hands on activities will allow students to explore and make discoveries of their own. $150
Dan Brabec teaches science and math at Steamboat Springs Middle School and is an avid outdoor enthusiast.
SUMMER THEATRE SESSION 1 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM AGES 6 AND UP
Using imaginative and playful methods, students will explore Shakespeare and his exciting characters, language and stories. Each day we will explore improvisation, character creation, ensemble building, and playing a scene. Classes will incorporate voice, movement, and acting enabling students to explore Shakespeare’s text emotionally, physically, and intellectually. Students will then create a performance piece based on their experience of the plays. $150
Kindra Stanfill earned her MEd from the UK, has worked with the British National Curriculum, and currently works at SSMS.
LEGO ROBOTICS AND CODING THIS CLASS IS NOW CLOSED
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM AGES 9 AND UP
Build a robot then spend two hours every day programming its sensors to accomplish missions, participate in SUMO wrestling contests or use gearing to create the fastest robot. The last hour of each day will be spent creating video games and digital artwork using Scratch and Python. $150
Diane Maltby is the STEM teacher at SSMS and has coached award winning competitive robotics teams.
THE GREAT BRAIN This class has been cancelled. 12:30 PM - 3:30 PM AGES 9 - 13
Do you ever wonder how your brain works? Spend this week learning about the structure and function of the brain, how the brain communicates, and brain health. Our culminating activity will include the dissection of a real sheep brain! $150
Alison Chadbourne worked in neuroscience research labs and currently teaches science at SSMS.
THE MAGIC OF FLIGHT THIS CLASS IS NOW CLOSED
12:30 PM - 3:30 PM AGES 10 - 14
Look! Up in the sky… it’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s an ornithopter?!? Explore the magic of flight through hand-made creations including paper airplanes, rubber band powered flying machines and simple rockets. Discover different ways flight can be achieved and recreate that same flight with basic materials. The culmination of the class will be building rubber band powered flying machines to soar in the gymnasium. $150
